Born in Calgary, Alberta and created by Game Master and creative force Yoav Niv, NiStar is a space for adventurers of all kinds to gather, play, and laugh their way through unforgettable campaigns.
We believe that TTRPGs are for everyone — and that the best campaigns don’t always go as planned. Whether you're a seasoned Dungeon Master or someone who just found their first character sheet, you're welcome here.
We run games for groups, charities, and conventions. From homebrew campaigns to hybrid in-person/online events, we’re creating a space where stories flourish, dice roll true (or catastrophically), and no one plays alone.
MEET YOAV NIV
A lifelong enthusiast of all things fantastical, Yoav founded NiStar Entertainment to give the world a taste of what role-playing games can truly be. Yoav's journey into the realm of role-playing games at the tender age of 13, when a fateful encounter with a tattered rulebook and a handful of dice changed the course of his life forever.
What began as casual games with friends eventually took Yoav across North America in search of new ways to bend, break, and reshape the world of tabletop role-playing. As a Game Master, Yoav crafts legendary campaigns that are immersive and leave even the most seasoned players at the edge of their seats. His style is unorthodox: a mix of cinematic storytelling, gut-wrenching tension, tournament style play, and a high level of detail.
His worlds are full of danger, dark humor, and mind-bending twists, designed not just to challenge players but to make them feel the stakes - to make them believe, even for a moment, that the fantasy is real.But Yoav isn't just a Game Master. As the CEO of NiStar Entertainment, he's the driving force behind the company's relentless pursuit of pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the role playing game world. His mission is simple: to create worlds and experiences that ignite the imagination and leave players breathless. Whether it's designing homebrew monsters, crafting intricate NPCs, or creating entire campaigns from scratch, Yoav's vision is to make role playing games a thrilling, unpredictable adventure, one that embraces the unpredictable nature of both the game and the human spirit.

I’m happy that I’ve got a chance to meet & play with GM Yoav at RPG Alliance Con. Well-prepared, used 6 maps for our one-shot. Amazing control of the pace of the game. Knew when the environment should rush players forward or give them a chance to talk things through. I liked and noted for myself his way of dealing with initiative, which helps eliminate boring elements of this process. Balanced encounters and a very fun experience. I was lucky enough to be invited to one of his campaigns after the Con. Things are only picking up from there! Highly recommend Yoav at Nistar Entertainment as a very experienced GM who is welcoming to players of all levels, from newly appointed knights to battle-tested wizards!
Yoav at Nistar is an omega-level DM. He knows the rules inside out. He does great voices and role-playing for all the NPCs. He's got maps ready to go with amazing and well-thought out plot lines. He's good at accommodating newbies with various questions and knows how to help plod them along without taking over or taking the fun out. He also keeps the campaign moving ahead well by factoring in busy schedules and keeping sessions shorter but consistent and nudging the players along so they don't go down rabbit holes which are dead ends. I'm into my second campaign with him and am eagerly awaiting the third.
Found my new pastime(okay obsession)! I was a beginner when coming into DnD and it through Nistar I quickly became comfortable enough to play with people that have been gaming for 40+ years! The games are run incredibly well with clear rules that keep things engaging and fun. Think old school content with modern rules/gameplay save a few throwbacks to the old way of doing things (like initiative). The mix makes for an amazing session that doesn’t lag along and keeps players engaged. I highly recommend anyone looking for their next adventure/group to check out Nistar!
