The Corvex Descent

The party began the session aboard their ship on the frozen moon of Skurn. Before they could collect themselves, a xenomorph forced its way toward the hull, tearing at the airlock with acid-dripping claws. In a desperate close-quarters fight, the crew managed to kill the creature just as it was about to breach the ship’s interior, buying themselves a moment of safety.

With the immediate danger handled, the group ventured back out into Skurn’s deadly cold. Before them stretched a vast, impassable gulf—a shimmering purple sea of liquid methane, its surface roiling beneath toxic vapors. Working together, they constructed a frost bridge across the chasm, a glittering span of enchanted ice that trembled under the strain of the alien environment. They crossed it cautiously, the methane sea bubbling ominously beneath them.

Beyond the gulf lay an endless frozen expanse. There, the silence shattered as malfunctioning mining automatons lurched out from the ice. Their joints cracked with frost and their movements jerked unpredictably, guided by corrupted commands. The party fought through the machines, leaving twitching carcasses scattered across the snow.

Eventually the group located a vertical tunnel shaft descending into the moon’s interior—a black drop carved straight into Skurn’s crystalline crust. Those who stared too long into its depths felt their minds reel as Corvex resonance pulsed through them, triggering flashes of madness and distorted memories.

Despite the mental strain, they descended.

The deeper they went, the more disturbing the journey became. Along the shaft, embedded in ice or sprawled across crystalline ledges, they found twisted, frozen clones of themselves—each corpse bearing horrific signs of death. Their own faces stared back at them from broken visors and cracked helmets, each discovery eroding the group’s sanity and raising terrifying questions about how many versions of them had perished here already.

At last, the shaft opened into the edge of a colossal subterranean cavern. Resin-coated pillars, cocoon clusters, and steam vents filled the chamber, marking it unmistakably as a xenomorph hive. At its heart, partially fused with a glowing Corvex crystal mass, loomed a powerful hive-mind entity, far larger and more intelligent than the creatures they had faced before.

The moment the queen sensed them, the cavern erupted with psychic pressure. The party realized instantly that a fight here meant certain death.

They ran.

With the hive stirring behind them and the queen’s mental shriek echoing through the tunnels, the crew scrambled back toward the shaft. They escaped only by sheer luck and frantic determination, pulling themselves up and out before the hive could fully awaken.

Battered, terrified, and shaken by the truth they had glimpsed, the party barely escaped Skurn’s depths alive—but the revelations they uncovered now weigh heavily on them. The mysteries of Corvex resonance and their own cloned reflections grow darker with every step they take.
